We're on a mission of putting the mod into modern. We’ve rebooted our site with some simple clean, modernist designs in white ink on black 100% cotton T-shirts. Garage made in Oakland, CA. Wall art and new products will be integrated in the next few weeks.

Modpop Design is the output of Oakland based art / creative director / designer / artist / somewhat serviceable vintage scooter mechanic / occasional longboard surfer, and SF Bay Area native, Gary Williams. Having been inspired by the style my parents and their generation in their youth, I've been fortunate to grow up in the San Francisco and the Bay Area where a vibrant community of mods, scooter boys, punks and garage rockers have been showing me how it’s done since my teenage years. 

I designed my pop-art take on the classic RAF roundel with the ink splat in a moment of inspiration in the Academy of Art library in it's old location on Powell Street around 1988. Great designs always start with a great idea. It originally appeared for a printed class project—part zine, part portfolio piece, mostly the latter. I’ve been using the ‘splat target’ as my personal mark throughout my career and it has since evolved into the stylized piece of you see today.
